Bekal Fort is one of the most famous and ancient forts in the Kasaragod district. The fort is built entirely of red sandstone. It is believed that the fort was built by Shivappan in the year 1650. It is believed that observation towers were built here during the reign of Tipu Sultan.

Bekal Fort is one of the largest and most well-preserved monuments in the state. The fort, which is shaped like a keyhole, was built in the 17th century. The fort's observation towers are built to provide a panoramic view of the Arabian Sea. The construction of these towers, which have facilities to observe the sea and place huge artillery, took place only two centuries ago.

The uniqueness of Bekal Fort is that it was built exclusively for monitoring, defending and counterattacking. Although the fort has been under the control of several dynasties over the years, it is clear from history that none of them had any administrative office within the fort.
