Shipping Container Rental is a fascinating opportunity for artists from the art community. As a result of a recently established grant app , up to four artistic artists will be taking over shipping containers set up around downtown Grand Rapids, making their imaginative work a sexy focal point for town. Artists will utilize these container homes to exhibit their art during the months of May through August. The container houses will soon be available to rent by the month or a complete calendar year, depending on the grant the artist receives. In addition, many of these artistic entrepreneurs will be working closely with local businesses to give free space to display their wares. Art enthusiasts can visit Pure Michigan, located in West Oakland, to find out more about applying for this funding.
The notion of using shipping containers as a platform for traveling street art comes from artist Chad Timothy's want to create an experience that looks like a cross between a pub and a street fair. "The container was a blank canvas," he said. "We painted on it, whatever came to mind" In addition to housing his street art equipment, Tim also serves as the event's organizer, responsible for organizing the various aspects of the day-a pre-show meeting, an opening reception and post-show actions like picture shoots. Visitors can meet the four artists working to alter shipping containers with free tours during the months of May through August.
Another artist included with the grand rapids' shipping container revitalization campaign is Michigan based artist Gabrielle Reece. She'll be transforming shipping containers employed from the Grand Rapids Area Development Corporation within its street arts program to beautiful works of permanent street art. In addition to her art, the development company will utilize the spaces to home cheap offices and tables.
The hope isn't only to lease a shipping container, but to get a means for the artist to perform his art. He sees it as an chance to share some of his creative vision with other people and a way for him to showcase his own music. "That is actually my most exciting moment in artistic invention, I think," he states. "I can't wait to show off it at home or anywhere we go. It's such a liberating feeling."
