The Ant and the Dove story is one of the best stories in Aesop’s fables as it explains the moral of compassionate behaviour. One has to learn and apply a basic habit of helping others. This story teaches the children how to help each other in need. This story is also a very good example to teach kids about helping other people.

Long ago, in a forest there lived an ant and a dove. They never knew each other before. On a hot summer afternoon, the ant was in search of water as it was very thirsty. On a long-distance, it found a water pond. It became very happy and immediately went near the pond. It slowly climbed the rocks near the pond and started drinking the water.

As the rocks were slippery, the ant accidentally slipped into the water while drinking. It was unable to swim and about to drown in water. A dove resting on a tree near the pond saw the tiny ant fighting for its life in water. The dove immediately took a leaf and threw it into the water near the ant so that the ant could climb over it. The ant however managed to climb onto the leaf. The ant thanked the dove for saving its life. In this way, the dove has saved the ant from drowning into the water. From then on, the ant and the dove became friends.

One morning, as the ant was going to the dove to meet him, he saw a bird catcher who was about to capture the dove in his net. It also saw that the dove has no chance to escape out of its nest. It bit the bird catcher in order to save the dove's life. The bird-catcher screamed in a pain and dropped his net. The Dove immediately escaped from that place and even ant escaped from the bird-catcher. In this way, the ant had saved the dove’s life from a bird-catcher.

A chorus of the moral ‘One good turn deserves another’ is followed by the story after its narration. Now let’s see what we can learn from this story. Helping the one in need is the main theme that can be taken from this story. Helping others does not only mean giving something away. It also means doing something in action that helps others who are in difficult situations. Helping others will definitely give us the joy of satisfaction. For example, we can help underprivileged people by providing basic necessities like food, water, and clothes. By doing this, they will be happy and also, we will definitely experience the joy of satisfaction. We can also help elder people or physically disabled people by serving them or doing work that is difficult for them. We can help younger people by sharing our knowledge and experience with them which might be useful for their future

We should learn to help each other in tough situations. Every good thing we do comes back again to us. It is always said that a helping hand is always a good hand. By helping others, we will be able to get them away from tough situations. Also, in the above story, the dove never expected the ant to help him as it saved his life. Similarly, we should not expect the help back from the person who we have helped. When time and situation come, everything will happen right.

We have to be quick enough to make a good decision in our life similar to the dove and the ant. The dove immediately threw a leaf in order to save the ant’s life and also the ant quickly bit the bird catcher to save the dove's life. These decisions were spontaneous and helped each other.
