Hallux is the Latin name for toe. A toe is referred to as hallux means "all in one" in Latin. In simple terms, Hallux means the fused toe. Hallux Rigidus is an abnormality of the joints located at the bottom of the large toe commonly known as the hallux. It causes increased stiffness and pain in the joint, together with time, it becomes more difficult to bend the joint.

Hallux Rigidus can be congenital or non-conformist, depending on which part of the body they occur. Hallux Rigidus usually occurs in a single toe of a person who suffers from degenerative arthritis. The symptoms of Hallux Rigidus can be recognized by extreme redness and pain, and the condition can be treated by the use of cold compresses and gels, or by the prescription of various ointments and lotions.

Hallux Limitus is the other type of Hallux. It occurs in a person who suffers from Hallux Rigidus. This is not a degenerative arthritis like Hallux Rigidus, but it is a condition that occur spontaneously without any apparent cause. A patient suffering from Hallux Limitus will feel pain in the area of the big toe only, and not in other joints of the body. A doctor's diagnosis for Hallux Limitus is entlastungsschuh hallux valgus based on the patient's reports of paininess in the affected area. Hallux Limitus can be a serious condition, if not treated, because it can damage the delicate joints of the big toe and surrounding tissues, causing severe pain and deformation of those areas.

When a patient suffers from Hallux Rigidus, a procedure called joint replacement surgery is considered. When a diseased joint in Hallux Rigidus does not respond to modern medical treatment, or cannot be fixed with modern surgical techniques, joint replacement surgery is the only solution. During the procedure, a pocket of cartilage is removed near the site of the diseased joint and a prosthetic joint cushion is placed over the stump. When the operation is completed, the patient can resume his or her daily activities.

A person suffering from Hallux Valgus may also be recommended to have a surgery known as arthroscopic translation. Arthroscopic translation is done when a portion of the damaged joint is removed so that healthy cartilage can grow around it. Patients who have undergone this type of surgery are often able to resume normal function of their joints after a few weeks. Sometimes, additional surgery may be required to relieve pain. If you decide to undergo an arthroscopic surgery to relieve pain in your joints, you should consult your physician about the risks and complications involved in such surgery.

Although there are many treatment options available for Hallux Rigidus, it is important that you should get proper medical treatment if you experience pain in your low back or in your legs. If the pain is caused by the disease, treatment options include pain relievers, anti inflammatory medications, and exercise to reduce the swelling. These drugs should be taken with caution because they may cause more harm than good. For instance, NSAIDs have been known to cause gastrointestinal bleeding, kidney damage, and other side effects. In addition, steroids can lead to heart damage and affect bone mineral density. For best results, it is always advisable to consult a doctor if you experience a dull pain in your legs.
