Travel Guide - Xiqiao Mountain

Situated in Nanhai District, Foshan City, in southern Guangdong Province, the average altitude of Xiqiao Mountain is about 300 meters (984 feet), however, the main peak is only about 340 meters (1,115 feet).

Xiqiao Mountain is crowned an emerald in South Guangdong, it is an extinct volcano which has been sleeping for billions of years. Xiqiao Mountain has a history of over 6000 years. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, numerous scholars and students lived there. It is also the seedbed of "Nanquan Culture" and the birthplace of Chinese martial master - Huang Feihong.

It has totally 72 peaks and 36 hollows, the strange hollows, numerous grotesque cliffs, tranquil lakes and magnificent waterfalls are the main tourist attractions here. The most well-known scenic spots include White Cloud Hollow Scenic Spot, Green Rock Scenic Spot, Jasper Hollow Scenic Spot, Yellow Immortal Holy Garden, Kwan-yin of South China Sea Cultural Garden and Wushu Hall of Huang Feihong's Lion Skill. Because of its thick forests and mosses, abundant water resource, it accquired the fame "solid reservoir".

Among these 36 hollows, the White Cloud Hollow is the most charming. Stands in the western foothills of Xiqiao Mountain, it occupies an area of 1.2 sq kilometers (297 acreages). In the hollow, there are quite a lot temples, monasteries and pavilions.

On the top of Daxian Peak of the Xiqiao Mountain, there is an attraction named South China Sea Kwan-yin Cultural Center. The Kwan-yin is 61.9 meters (about 203 feet) high, implying that Kwan-yin achieved perfection on June 19th.

Even today, people in Xiqiao Mountain still lead a simple and original life. You can enjoy the local wedding, customs and folk entertainment activities there if you are lucky enough.
