Another reason for hair thinning in Squirrels is a fungal infection called dermatophytoses. The squirrel won't lose its hair, it is simply how the fungus causes it to destroy off with the skin. Most fungus like warm, moist environment to grow, therefore dermatophytoses is viewed in warm moist climates, and during unusually wet periods. A squirrel can get over this fungal thinning hair so long as it's defense mechanisms is within sound condition. A sick or immune compromised Squirrel may not be so lucky! Dietary insufficiency, or poor diet, is the one other reason behind hair loss in Squirrels. A severe insufficient Calcium will cause poor new hair growth and/or cause the hair to drop out. This is especially true in Squirrels which can be kept in captivity! Special attention need to be paid for the diet in addition to daily exposure to day light or sunlight. Following closely on qq is the problem called Metabolic Bone Disease. Hair loss and lack of Calcium from bones will be the characteristics of severe Calcium deficiency. qq create a condition called Rickets, and may lose using their rear legs. This causes these to shuffle once they attempt to walk and their bones become quite brittle and prone to breakage. Left untreated, Metabolic bone disease will advance to permanent nerve and bone damage and heart failure. Poor diet and metabolic bone disease is treatable as long as it is caught in early stages. Foods full of Calcium and Calcium supplementation really are a must in every captive Squirrels! The last potential cause of hair loss, especially in Gray or Fox Squirrels, is a hereditary defect. There are some Squirrels born missing the hair growing chromosome, just as there are some born missing the pigmentation chromosome, (Albino Squirrels,) These hairless Squirrels never develop hair. It's rare for the crooks to survive in the colder climates, and difficult at advisable to survive even just in warm climates due towards the fact that they're not recognized by their kind and so are often rejected as well as attacked or killed. All dietary causes of baldness in Squirrels are extremely easily treated through feeding an effective diet and insuring that there is sufficient quantities of Calcium and essential vitamins of their diet. Through dealing with Squirrels and researching natural products, I've been in a position to improve on some tried and tested recipes for squirrel dietary supplements. One major improvement that I found was digging in Organic Raw Coconut Oil. Unprocessed Coconut Oil is abundant with an ingredient called Lauric Acid which is really a natural anti bacterial, anti fungal and anti viral substance. You can read about the effect of this amazing substance on Candida Albicans, a standard yeast type organism at: #R2. Since I've added Raw Coconut Oil to my Squirrel Supplements, my Squirrels have grown out hair that feels as soft as mink! Hair loss in Squirrels can be a hassle! But, I've found that helping the diet of affected Squirrels, and adding the best natural products as to what they eat, goes further toward solving a lot of the problems!
