Meeting Transcription - A Faster Alternative To Meeting Minutes

I’m sure the word transcription is not new for us. We have heard about medical transcription for years where the audio file is converted to a text file. Here I’d love to share my thoughts about the meeting transcription and tools to transcribe meetings to text.

When I started my career and worked at an office, I used to take notes during a meeting with a pen and paper. It has probably been only the last year that I have started taking minutes of meetings directly into a laptop during the meeting. I don’t think you can attend a meeting and type minutes at the same time.

So, I moved back to the old school mode again, I took notes by hand and typed them up after the meeting.

But: that was a huge waste of time, surely there has to be a better way? Since 2020 when we started to work in the remote environment, Technology has soared a lot that now there are tools that transcribe meetings to text for you. This transcription software record and transcribe meeting minutes for you efficiently and saves a lot of time.

This software identifies speakers, lets you highlight key phrases, and creates a transcript in real-time that you can see on the screen. It acts as a meeting assistant and captures your meeting notes. You can also playback parts of the meeting once it is recorded to compare the transcript to the speech. This app also integrates with a calendar app and CRM app.

When it comes to transcription service apps, there are a plethora on the market to choose from, which can make selecting the ideal one quite challenging. What features should you look for in a transcription service app?

  • accuracy of the transcription
  • accuracy of the attribution
  • custom vocabulary
  • meets your security criteria like data syncing over an encrypted connection, recordings stored in a secure cloud environment
  • Records in the browser or do we need an app.
  • App integrations
  • Contextual search within a transcription
  • Highlight key phrases during recording
  • Share with colleagues
  • Downloading the text option
  • Pricing

All these meeting transcription tools have pros and cons. I can see them each having a use for a different purpose. My advice would be to do some initial tests to choose a product that is best for your environment. Then stick with it. Keep using it for at least a month so that it learns the vocabulary and the voices of your teammates.

Meeting minutes record important details, decisions, and assignments and provide references for future meetings and clarification of previous meeting details. One of the biggest challenges with virtual meetings is managing the meeting minutes to do them successfully I’d support using software to record and transcribe meetings. Here is the tool I use- Marsview AI that records, automatically transcribes, and captures insights such as action items, questions, and responses, topics, call quality, sentiments, engagement levels, meeting activity a and more. Try it now.
