Moss spores are in the air can only be made moisture to germinate and mature. One way you can control moss is to apply Sulphate of iron moss killer and improve the soil.

Moss grow due to the poor growing condition for your lawn. And it is an indication that the turf is not growing well. It is important to consider that moss does not kill the grass, it simply creates unfavourable growing condition such as shade, poor drainage, poor fertility or compacted soil. So if you want to Kill lawn moss, you need to focus on improving conditions for growing grass. You can also use sulphate of iron or other chemical control for short time effects on moss. The condition that is commonly associated with the most growth and their cultural control is described below in this article.

1: Improving drainage – While mosses will grow in well-drained soil, they grow better in wet soil then do grasses. Possible solutions which can be done are to alter the contours or trench the area to drain water away, alter the elevation of the area by adding sand or soil, or by digging a sump in the low spots, backfilling with sand. The installation of tile drainage may be necessary to correct wet conditions.

2: Compacted soil – Soil compaction helps to prevent the lawn from growing vigorously. It also prevents internal drainage and provides weather conditions favourable to mosses. Aerification with the machine that removes plugs of soil will help reduce compaction. Drainage in fine-textured soils can be improved by cultivation and adding a large amount of organic matter and sand.

3: Infrequent irrigation – The key to proper watering of the lawn is to water infrequently but deeply. Automatic watering on a too frequent schedule tends to promote problems with excessive moisture, especially in shady or poorly drained areas. Since these areas are already prone to moss problems, excess moisture just adds to the problem. Most healthy turf grasses about 1 inch of water each weak during active growth.

4: Increasing light penetration – Pruning will remove tree limbs below 10 feet and selected limbs in the crown will improve light penetration and their movement. The area surrounded by buildings and vegetation with limbs close to the ground may require considerable work to provide adequate air circulation and light penetration. You can also remove some of the trees and shrubs.

Once as many of the underlying conditions as possible have been altered, remove the mass by hand raking or by applying chemicals for Lawn moss killer.
