How to Prevent and Treat the 5 Most Common Chicken Diseases

Keeping your birds healthy should be your priority when you plan on starting a poultry farm. To keep the chicken gut health fit you must take proper measurements of medication for broilers at farm or poultry. Today we are going to gain insights about how to treat and prevent some common bird diseases.

1.   (Coccidiosis) – It is a parasite that damages the gut wall of chicken.

Treatment - You can treat this via antibiotics and other specific types of medication for broilers. Try and get rid of this parasite as soon as possible for the better health of the chicken.

Prevention – Using medication, feed unvaccinated chicks, and add probiotics supplements to their food. Keep their surroundings dry, clean and sanitized. Especially their food area, brooders, and coops to avoid coccidiosis,

2.   (Newcastle Disease) - A respiratory disease.

Treatment – Give a bacterial vaccine, antibiotics, and some infection medicines to treat your chick. If the bird is not treated on time its survival chances are low.

Prevention – As the disease is detected, keep your flock vaccinated and self-sanitize. A person also can spread this disease via clothes and shoes to other birds.

3.   (Marek’s Disease) – It is a form of cancer.

Treatment - Unfortunately not much can be done to the infected bird. It might also cause infection to other chicks in its surrounding.

Prevention – it is better to keep a bird separate from the flock, there are some vaccines available for young birds to help and reduce the likelihood of an infection.

4.   (Bronchitis) – it is a cold, fever, and stops egg production.

Treatment – keep them on normal antibiotics suggested by the vet for a few days only make sure any other infection does not occur.

Prevention - There are a few types of medicines available in the market for bronchitis, but there is no guarantee. Good biosecurity and adequate rodent control help to keep it to a minimum.

5.   (Fowl Pox) – A wet form of discharge disease around mouth and eyes.

Treatment – No special treatment for fowl pox. It goes away on its own, just keep your bird comfortable.

Prevention – Few good vaccines are designed for this disease and keep the bird quarantined.
