So many newspapers nowadays are not giving out news anymore. They are more interested in opinions. With lines between what's true and what's not getting blurry, it's only natural for you to think to yourself - "I wish I could start my own newspaper". The protesting farmers did the same thing, albeit without the proper authorization. However, they did create their own newspaper to cut through all the noise and provide the exact news that they deem is worthy. You can do the same, all you need is an RNI registration.

In this article, I am going to deliver you a simple 4-step guide to get RNI registration in India. The steps would be smaller and understandable, but you'd know where to start the process.

Step 1: Get the verification for the title of your newspaper

Your very first step towards having your first newspaper publish across any region of India is to decide on a title. Once you've done so, go online at the website provided by the Registrar of Newspaper in India. Once you're there, input the details and get the title verified. Consider it the first step of RNI online registration.

Step 2: Authentication of declaration

Once you've gotten RNI certificate for the title, forward it to the concerned authority. These can be any one of the following officials depending on your region:

  1. DM
  2. DC
  3. SDM
  4. DCP
  5. JCP
  6. CMM

Along with the RNI title verification letter (which is basically RNI Title Registration), also submit a filled FORM 1 of declaration. That declaration would be authenticated by the above mentioned officials. Be mindful of what district you are from because that would decide from where you're getting your declaration authenticated from.

After you submit the request, you'll obtain the authentication.

Step 3: Publication of the first volume

After you've obtained the authentication for your declaration, you have to publish your first edition as per the following rules:

  1. If you're planning to publish daily or weekly, you need to publish your first volume within the 42 days of receiving the authentication.
  2. If you're planning to publish your work per fortnight or more, you need to publish your first volume within 90 days of receiving the authentication.

If you somehow miss the timeline of publishing your first volume, you'd need to obtain fresh authentication for declaration and the process shall begin again.

More points to note are as follows:

  1. Your work should be published by the printing press that you've mentioned in the declaration.
  2. Your work should contain news/views/articles. And if the publication is bilingual, it should be published in multiple languages.

Step 4: Submitting the documents and obtaining the final RNI certificate Registration

After you obtain the RNI certificate, you need to forward the same and the documents required for RNI registration to the:

  1. DM
  2. DC
  3. SDM
  4. DCP
  5. JCP
  6. CMM

Those documents would also include your declaration
