3 Organizational Tips for Your Bathroom Remodel

Posted by SummitCabinets on September 26th, 2014

What is it about a bathroom that makes it look so cluttered? It’s not the size, because there are ways to make a small bathroom look bigger (mirrors, consistent tiles and proper lighting); conversely, there are also ways to make a large bathroom look small. Sometimes even remodeling the bathroom doesn’t feel like it did much to alleviate the clutter problem. Plenty of people take the same old things back into their new bathroom. The result – it doesn’t even look like they just had an expensive remodel.

Don’t fall into that trap. Plan ahead, and put organization at the forefront of your design choices. Keep these three tips in mind BEFORE the design is finalized and construction begins:

  1. Purge, Purge and Purge – There is no need to collect items that are not immediately needed when you are in your bathroom. Haven’t used that shelf with rollers and curling iron on it for months? Put it into storage. What about the 8 different types of towels you have in your bathroom? You don’t need so many. Put half of them in your linen and bath closet to free up some space. Basically, take a long and hard look at the things you will be putting back into your remodeled bathroom. Throw away or store anything that isn’t used.
  2. Smart Storage – With small bathrooms, you need to invest in smart storage options. Now, the manufacturers of these options know that floor space is limited in your tiny bathroom. So, they make use of the space on the walls. As a tip, even though you think closed closets in your bathroom save space, they actually give an illusion of restriction. So, invest in storage units with a combination of doors and open shelves. Have plenty of hooks on the walls and add glass shelves. You can also invest in shelves above the door of the bathroom for added space.
  3. Slide, Don’t Swing – When you get swinging doors for your bathroom storage, you are missing out on valuable floor space. Instead, invest in units that slide smoothly along the side and behind the furniture. In this way, you can not only save up on space, you can also free up some area for keeping other things. Invest in a corner unit to make the most of that unused space.

When you think organization, you also have to balance it with aesthetics. In fact, the right design will ensure that after your organization efforts, your bathroom actually looks bigger. For instance, glass shelves not only look good and give an illusion of space but they are also great for storage.

Bathroom remodeling services, in Riverside, CA especially is a great decision for sprucing up a home, but make sure you don’t just get a bathroom that looks nice – get a bathroom you can use.
