History

The State of California established this graveyard, the most renowned among California cemeteries in the year 1905 under the name Sunset Cemetery. In 1926, its name got changed to Westwood Memorial Park. This happened when the area began to be redesigned for the UCLA to open after some years. Reports say that it is in the year 1880 that the first burial took place in this cemetery.

The chapel

In 1961, the cemetery got a new chapel. The wood-frame chapel still remains to be an added decoration to the graveyard. The cemetery was spread in an area of 2.72 acres. However, in the following years, the unused parts of it were sold to the nearby movie theatre.  In the year 1991, it became a part of the Dignity Network.

Location
