Can a sports rehab clinic in Liverpool help you with everyday back pain?

Back pain is common and varies from a slight twinge to severe pain at times. Most recover from it quickly if it’s managed properly but for some it returns time and time again. Whether you’re an athlete, someone who works out from time to time or simply a sufferer of back pain then City Rehab, a SPORTS REHAB clinic in LIVERPOOL can help.

So what exactly is back pain? Well it’s essentially an MSD “muscular skeletal disorder” which can also include neck pain and repetitive strain injury. MSD’s can occur through injury during training, picking up a heavy parcel incorrectly or even staying in one position for too long. Stress and anxiety can make pain worse.

Physiotherapy from City Rehab’s Liverpool based SPORTS REHAB clinic can work well for managing back pain. By seeing a physiotherapist quickly you’ll not only speed up recovery but may also help prevent the problem happening again. A physiotherapist will first look to see if you have a serious health issue that may be connected in some way to your back pain. They’ll then find the exact reason for the pain unless you’re already aware of just how it occurred. Once they’ve diagnosed a cause, it’ll then be on to treatment. Physios have a range of treatments that have been proven to be extremely effective with back pain which include a range of manual treatments. You’ll be advised on a range of exercises and pain relief to help manage the issue whilst recovering.

Here are City Rehab’s top tips for back pain

Exercise and activity – it’s important to keep moving. If you aren’t able to continue with usual activities (your physio will advise best on this) then activities such as walking and swimming will still help. It’s also important to remember to avoid sitting for too long when driving or at work/home. Break it up by getting up and walking the room or stopping off at services at regular intervals. This will help to prevent stiffness.

Take care when lifting – bend hips, knees and use the power in your legs to lift instead of your back. This will help prevent further damage.

Check your posture – make sure to check your posture when sitting at your desk or watching television. Adjust car seats and office chairs so that they correctly support your back. For some a large exercise ball provides a better seating option at a desk as it helps to strengthen trunk muscles, which in turn protect your back.

Quit the habit – stop smoking now. It impairs circulation and this only negatively impacts on how quickly your body can recover from injury.
