The Hammer Museum ushered in the beginning of the crowded fall event season in Los Angeles on Saturday night with its 12th annual Gala in the Garden. Emily Blunt, John Krasinski, Danna and Ed Ruscha, and Bottega Veneta’s Tomas Maier—some in absentia—co-chaired the evening, which included a viewing of the museum’s current exhibitions and a dinner honoring Joni Mitchell and L.A.

visual artist Mark Bradford. Julia Roberts, Will Ferrell, Doug Aitken, Common, and Ashley Olsen were in the crowd. Arriving alongside brother Tony Goldwyn, Liz Goldwyn said, “I love having my big brother be my date, because when I get socially awkward, I cling to him.” Her sibling was quick to counter. “That never happens, she knows everyone.” As for keeping pace with the season of museum soirees, Scandal’s president is game. “I’ll go when I’m invited,” Goldwyn said. While Catherine Opie, Evan Rachel Wood, Orlando Bloom, and Kate Bosworth wandered the museum after hours, Elizabeth Banks admitted to finally feeling like an Angeleno. “I still feel weirdly new to L.A.

because I have no roots here,” Banks said, in conversation with Rashida Jones. “So events like this make me feel like I’m actually owning the fact that I live here a little bit.” For the L.A.-bred Jones, the connections run deep, particularly with the night’s honoree. “I heard Joni Mitchell sing 15 years ago at a live show at a warehouse, and she sang ‘Trouble Man’ and it was one of the best nights of my life,” she said. With his own deep connection to music. Cameron Crowe was on hand to give the tribute to Mitchell, before a performance by Sia, singing “Chandelier” and “Big Girls Cry,” electrified the crowd in the museum’s open-air courtyard.
