Effects of Price Rise of Train Tickets After Lockdown

Indian Railways is the world's fourth-largest rail network. It carries more than 20 million passengers and operates 10 thousand trains regularly. Providing travelling facilities with food options for travellers becomes a priority. It offers the cheapest fares to travellers; thus, it is the lifeline of our country.

Had you ever imagined, what would happen when the railway stops its services? Indian Railways Fare is such a low amount that it's impossible for it to think of its per day income. Indian Railways is the financial backbone of our country. Its revenue is more than 55,000 crore in a year or 153-154 crore a day.

Not even a single person thought that Indian Railways would be closed this year, not for a couple of days, but months. It is surprising for us that the Indian Railways, which did not stop its services even during the most prominent world wars, got closed due to COVID-19.

Indian Railways is responsible for the health of its passengers, so it stopped its train facilities to reduce the spread of coronavirus infection. And this decision of Railways was correct. As millions of passengers travelled via train regularly, so the chances of spreading community infection were quite high.

This decision of railways kept our country a bit safe but broke the financial backbone of our country. Not only that, but Indian Railways is also using its trains by making quarantine centres, providing food, sanitisers and masks to the poor, and taking migrant labourers to their homes safely from other states.

Now, Indian Railways had to increase its train ticket price, as it has already given its savings to the country funds to keep people safe from the infections. It is quite possible that the fare of platform tickets will also increase.

Indian Railways always cares about the budget of passengers, so it keeps its services within the cheapest price range. It uses its savings for the development of our country. It also offers the most significant number of vacancies for employment.

But due to COVID-19, it has to raise its train ticket fare so that it can prepare itself for the next epidemic. Currently, there are a few trains running to and from important destinations with the increased fare. But as the number of cases of those infected starts decreasing or becomes constant, then railways is resuming local trains too. Right now, passengers can travel by following the guidelines of the precautions of COVID-19.
