The main goal of the game is for the football to be thrown over the net. Of course, the referee will try to prevent this by any means necessary, such as pulling the players down. Each team completes twelve passes before the ball is placed into play. This pass consists of two steps: the first requires the receiver to "snag" the ball and then holding it briefly so that the "net" can be created. After this second step, the pass is completed. Of course, if there are not enough players to actually complete the pass, the "net" is manually created by pressing the appropriate button.
