What is laser engraver? How dose it work?

Simply put - Laser engraving is the practice of using lasers to engrave any object. In the Laser Engraving process, materials vaporizes into fumes caused by the burning due to massive levels of heat energy generated by heavy laser focus. This technique does not involve use of inks, nor does it involve tool bits which contact the engraving surface and wear out, giving it an advantage over alternative engraving or marking technologies. Laser engraving technology is typically used to engrave metal workpieces as well as laser engraving painted metal. Metal engraving works with steel and aluminum (including anodized and die-casting aluminum). The laser beam acts as a chisel, incising marks by removing layers from the surface of the material. Other than metal, you can work with a variety of materials, including steel, aluminum, anodized aluminum, lead, magnesium, zinc as well as laser wood engraver.

Any laser engraver is aware about the 3 main parts associated with laser engraving machines - a laser, a controller, and a surface. Just like a sketch board has - a chalk, person and board as a surface - similarly the laser beam here emits and focuses on the surface acting as a drawing tool but with very heavy density and high power. Controllers in turn trace patterns on the surface while also determining crucial controlling factors such as direction, intensity, speed of movement, and spread of the laser beam aimed at the surface. This method is quick, as the material is removed with each pulse of the laser. The depth of the marks is controlled by the number of times the laser beam is passing on the material. Lastly, the surface is any material that the laser can comfortably work with the help of laser engraver.

To choose the right laser marking process with any laser engraving service provider, you usually rely on these three factors:

Marking resistance: its capacity to remain legible under harsh conditions

Marking speed: the marking time that prevents production bottlenecks

Marked Material: its compatibility with the marking method

Types: If you are interested in laser engraving painted metal as a laser engraver then basically you should be aware of the different types of laser engraving machines. First ones are engraver machines where the workpiece stays stable, only the laser moves (or inversely). Other machines dedicated to cylindrical workpieces. The last possibilities are laser engraving machines where the laser and the workpiece are both immobile but galvo mirrors are moving the laser beam on the surface to engrave.
