Are TBC Private Servers still popular?

Posted by emmadobie on January 30th, 2021

Perhaps you have an itch to play The Burning Crusade? As of right now, the only way to do so, is through fanservers. The reason is that currently Blizzard does not offer TBC through Retail. Therefore, it can only get experienced through Private Servers. Luckily, there's quite a lot of different servers for this, to choose between. But the question is whether the servers are still popular and healthy in 2021? That's what we will be looking into, in this article.

What is the biggest TBC Private Server?

Over the years, new TBC Private Servers have been popping up, but older ones have also disappeared. Because of that, it's important to have some stable go-to servers, that you trust and get the best experience out of, so they don't close out of a sudden. A good way to prevent playing on servers that risk getting closed, is to go for the largest servers. This way, you sort of have a guarantee while playing Burning Crusade. The #1 biggest server for this expansion (2.4.3), is Endless. It has around 2500-3000 players onlie at peak times, and is an international server. Endless also has adjusted game features, such as 5X experience gain rates, adjusted weapon and spell training costs. Another huge factor, is that they have no P2W. In general, they have quite good feedback, including good scripting, and staff members. The critic is however that they are said to have a quite toxic community. But the question is whether that's Endless particular, or just the TBC community as a whole. But to sum up, Endless is definitely the TBC server we recommend. An alternative, is Atlantiss, or Project Entropius. Both are worth checking out too.

How to play on a TBC Private Server?

The only way to play this expansion, is through Private Servers. They are however free, and you simply need to sign up to the particular TBC Private Server, and download a TBC 2.4.3 Client so that you can get ingame. Afterwards, you will be able to launch WoW.exe (after adjusting the Realmlist file). Then you're all set, and can reach level 70, get into Black Temple and get your T6 gear! In general, TBC is a rather popular expansion, and luckily there are also a few quite good servers out there, to be playing on. It is however said that Blizzard plan to move on to TBC as their next expansion, for their legacy project. That's definitely something you should keep in mind, before you play and start on a fanserver. This could result in the fanserver decreasing in terms of population, since people could move to retail instead.

Are TBC Private Servers the most popular expansion?

Over the years, TBC has had quite a lot of hype from private server players. This includes people from the reddit community (r/wowservers). Several people, such as Gummy, has been starting a WoW TBC Private Server and there have been an incredible high amount of hype for these fresh servers. But not everything lasts forever. After a while, it seems like servers for this game version dies a little out, and becomes less hyped. In general, TBC is not the most popular expansion anymore. Don't get us wrong - there's still a lot of players playing it, but compared to other versions, like 3.3.5, TBC 2.4.3 is not the most popular. But not being the most popular, doesn't mean that it's not right for you. If you miss how TBC was when you played Retail back in the good old days, then it's certainly worth re-visitting. Many servers have been working hard to provide a blizzlike experience.

Conclusion

You have learned what the biggest TBC Server is, and how to play on such a server, on this expansion. You have also learned whether TBC Servers are the most popular expansion, and the quick asnwer is no, it is not. On top of that, you are now aware that Blizzard will reach TBC as their next Milestone, which is important to know about.
