If you are looking for a proficientdental surgeon for yourself or a paedodontist (children’s dentist) for your child, you have come to the right place.Thededicated team of professionals at our Dentist Hornsbyclinic, under the leadership of Dr. Le, offers advanced competence indental surgery.Following are justsome of the dental procedures where we offer our expertise:

  • Extractions

A dental extraction is a simple procedure for the removal of a tooth from its socket in the jaw bone. It is one of the routine procedures carried out at our Dentist Hornsby surgery. The common reasons for a dental extraction are unrestorable tooth decay, gum disease, severe infection, and fractured teeth. It is carried out under a local anesthetic.

  • Wisdom Teeth Removal

Wisdom teeth (third molars) are the last teeth to erupt. Sometimes, they do not erupt properly and become completely or partially impacted due to lack of space in the jaws. An impacted wisdom tooth can cause pain, swelling, and limited mouth opening. It can disturb the alignment of the other teeth or damage an adjacent tooth. It is removed under a local anesthetic. A small incision is given in the gum overlying the impacted tooth and a drill is used to remove the bone. The tooth is then removed and the gum is sutured back.

  • Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment (endodontic therapy) is another routine procedure at our clinic.Contrary to what some may believe, the procedure is not painful as it is carried out under a local anesthetic. The targetisto remove infected pulp tissue from the tooth and drain any abscess. The root canals are then cleaned and shaped using different files. The last step is filling the canals with gutta-percha. The procedure is usually completed in 2 to 3 visits.A crown is recommended after the completion of treatment to avoid recurrence of infection.

  • Orthognathic (Specialized) Surgery

Orthognathic surgery, or corrective jaw surgery, is indicated in case of moderate to severe jaw and bite discrepancies which cannot be treated by orthodontic treatment alone. It is carried out by a maxillofacial surgeon in combination with an orthodontist. It aims at improving both function and aesthetics. It is usually performed under general anesthesia. The procedure involves cutting the jaw bones and moving them to the correct position. Screws and bone plates are used to hold the jaws in their new position. Usually there are no facial scars asthe operation is done inside the mouth without a skin incision.
