Keeping Your Wallet Slim: The Why And How

Posted by rosyrolly12 on February 3rd, 2021

The golden rule of carrying a man’s wallet is to keep it decluttered. Many of us are in the habit of stuffing old receipts and useless cards in our wallets. Thich is not good practice. Whether you carry a credit card wallet with a zipper or the good old bi-fold, you need to remember “less is more.” It is time to weed out the junk and give your wallet some breathing space because whatever is floating in there, chances are some of it is of no use.

If you are wondering, what’s the big deal around keeping it slim, it is a lot about presentation, organization, and comfort. Every time you put a bulging wallet in your pocket, it hurts your personality. Here’s how:

1. A thick wallet in any pocket means an asymmetrical bulge that is very visible from under your clothes. That screams “not stylish.”

2. Put an overstuffed wallet in your jacket’s pocket, and it will seem as if your shoulders are uneven or lopsided.

3. When you pull out an overflowing wallet from your pocket in public, it does not create a good impression. Overused plastic cards or fringes of tattered bills sticking out of your wallet make you look bad.

Don’t carry anything in your wallet that you don’t regularly need. So, what should go in your wallet at all times? Here are four things that all of us will agree must always be present in our wallets:

1. I.D- A state I.D card or driver’s license is the ultimate identification proof you can produce. Sometimes an I.D establishing your profession is required too. So carry that as well. What you don’t need is your county club membership cards and discount cards, unless you know you will be using them that particular day.

2. Cash- We know you may not need cash to pay for things most of the places, you just need your smartphone for that; credit cards are there too. But having some cash on hand is always a great idea. At times, the card may not work, or you may have to tip your waiter or pay your taxi driver. Cash is convenient and fast.

3. Credit cards- You obviously won’t step out of the house without your credit cards. If you have the habit of carrying more than two, invest in a premium credit card wallet with a zipper.

4. Business cards or contact information- If you are a business owner, keep your business card in your wallet. If you don’t, get a few cards printed with your contact information- just your name, e-mail address, and phone number. A couple of these should be enough unless you are heading to a place where you may have to give them out.
