Making Blender Cocktails – How to Do It Right

Posted by The Alchemist on February 3rd, 2021

The blender is one of the most versatile kitchen equipment out there. It’s not just useful in blending ingredients for soups or sauces but also for making drinks like milkshakes. To prove that it’s quite a versatile item, it can also whip up a good cocktail drink.

Frozen cocktails are popular today because they are a more refreshing alternative to the traditional cocktail drinks out there. If you have a favorite recipe for a cocktail drink, you can make a frozen version of that.

If you want to shake it up and make things more interesting on your home bar, you should go ahead and use your blender. Here are some tips that will help you create some of the best blended drinks:

  1. Make sure you follow a good ratio between ice and the other liquid ingredients

You can follow some recipes at The Alchemist and use the same amount of ice as your liquors and other mixers. Equal portions of liquid to ice are a good starting point. You can tweak your settings from there depending on your preferences.

If you prefer something thicker, you can add fresh fruit chunks. If you want to thin it down a little, don’t use water. Just use the same fruit juice you are using. Coconut water works as well.

  1. Follow correct sequencing

As you know, ice melts easily. If you blend it right away, your drink will become watery. You should start with solid items like the fruit chunks and then the liquor. It’s also better to chill the liquid first before you blend it with the rest of your ingredients to maintain the temperature of the drink.

The last should be the ice. Use the lowest setting on your blender and increase the speed slowly.

  1. Use crushed ice instead of ice cubes

There’s a chance the ice cubes will not blend properly, leaving you with some shards and chunks that are difficult to chew. With crushed ice, your frozen drinks will come out smoother.

Additionally, not everyone will have a powerful blender at home. If you have a basic blender, you should opt for crushed ice instead to prevent your blender from working too hard.

You can first process the ice cubes in a food processor before putting them in your blender. You can also manually crush it. Put the ice cubes in a Ziploc container and then crush the ice with a mallet.

  1. Use chilled liquor

As mentioned earlier, it’s best to use chilled liquor. Put your liquor in the fridge overnight to cool down first. This will also prevent the crushed ice from melting easily.
