Different Types Of Gate Valves And Their Importance

Gate valve also known as slide gate valve is basically used to control the flow of water or any other liquid through a pipe or duct. On turning these valves there is a movement of a closure element which moves up and down to obstruct the flow of the liquid. The uses of these valves include in homes, factories, large industries, hotels etc.

Different types of gate valves

Parallel valves – In these valves the flow of liquids is controlled with the help of flat disc placed between two parallel seats. The placement of these two seats is in an upstream as well as downstream manner. This function of the valve can be used effectively to control the flow of liquids.

Wedge Valves – This is one of the most popular varieties of gate valves. It contains a misaligned gate and two inclined seats.

Rising stem valves – This is the most common type of gate valve which is being used in most areas nowadays. There is a round handle which is attached to a stem or shaft. On turning of the handle the shaft rises and the valve becomes open. When the valve is closed the shaft comes down. The only limitation of this valve is that it cannot be used where there is a constraint of space.

Non rising stem valve – This kind of knife gate valve is used for underground pipes where it is difficult for the shaft to rise. When the handle is rotated to the left the valve becomes open and when it is rotated to the right completely, the valve becomes closed. Padlocking the non rising stem valves is easier than doing so with the rising stem valves. In a non rising stem valve only one padlock is required, while two padlocks are required in a rising stem valve.

Significance of gate valve

Adjustable office valve is basically used to control the flow of liquid. In spite of this, such a valve is seldom useful in regulating the flow of liquid in a continuous manner. It is usually used to completely shut down or open the pipe or duct.

Most of the valves are designed specifically to allow the free flow of liquid or to shut it down completely. There of course are valves which are used to regulate the flow of liquid but these valves are more complex in their operation and they usually don’t last long.

These valves are mostly used to control the flow of liquids whose consistency is thicker, like oil, cream and so forth. Seldom are they used for the controlling the flow of clean liquids. In situations where a shut down mechanism is required, gate valves become quite useful. These valves are very reliable and efficient for timely control of liquid flow. If you want to buy different types of gate valves, you can search the internet. There are many online stores which sell different types of valves. In fact in online stores you can find these valves at a very reasonable price. You can also compare the prices of different stores and choose the one that is offering the most reasonable rates.
