Travel Guide 101

To really get a feel for where you are vacationing, follow the locals. Many top vacation spots start to feel very generic and touristy. By asking around and finding where the people who live there hang out, or what are things to do in Bend Oregon you will get a more authentic feel for the area, and as a bonus, avoid the price markups that plague tourist hot spots.

When flying, be sure to wear loose fitting clothes and slip-on shoes. This will ensure that your flight is comfortable. Not only that, it won't take as long to get through security if you can quickly take your shoes on and off. Loose clothing will allow for any short term swelling that you may experience due to air pressure in the plane's cabin.

Maintain a happy attitude while traveling. Things can get rather tense at airports. Tempers run high. The people who work there often have a hard time of things. Keeping a positive demeanor about you, at least outwardly, will likely improve your experience. A negative attitude will seldom get you anywhere.

Autumn is a great time to travel through Bend Oregon. This is when the leaves begin to change into their beautiful golden color. The weather cools down, making the air feel refreshingly crisp. You no longer have to compete with summer tourists. This is the time when you can slow down your pace of travel and just enjoy the beauty around you.

If you have young children and are planning to fly, you should remember that they will need something to help "pop" their ears when the plane is taking off and landing. You can bring gum, or if you child swallows gum, tootsie rolls are the perfect alternative, as they can be chewed just long enough to help.

Losing your rental car in large parking lots is no fun. Carry one of those fluorescent foam balls that fit over the tip of your antenna or maybe even a colorful ribbon to tie to the rear view mirror. They take up no room in your luggage and can sure make locating that car a whole lot easier when there are exactly 37 others that look just like it in the same row where you parked!

Dining out while traveling can become expensive. Save the hit to your wallet by visiting a local grocery store and stocking up on groceries. Make as much food as you can at your hotel, and take snacks along on day trips. Even raid your own cabinets before you leave and take food with you. When you do decide to dine out you will appreciate the dinner that much more!

Taking your credit cards with you on a trip is a great way to have access to any money you may need. In addition, they will help to provide a list of your expenses, and generally offer good exchange rates. However, before you leave for your trip, you should notify the credit card provider about your trip, this is so they won't block any transactions from the new location.
