Posted by Mountain Home Decor on February 9th, 2021

Just the thought that your neighbors can see right through your big windows and spy on what you are doing can give you the creeps. It’s a good thing there are a lot of things that we can do to increase our privacy (and safety!) at home. You can try doing these things:

  1. Install a fence

Tall fences not just increase your privacy but also help deter burglars. It can also keep pets inside the premises of your home, so don’t have to worry about them getting out. Try installing a fence around your property. You can choose from materials like wood, which is a popular option these days, or opt for concrete or brick fences.

  1. Use window blinds

Window blinds are a good option for window treatment because you can adjust them easily. If you still want some natural light to stream through the windows, that can be easily achieved with window blinds in Whistler. If you prefer completely blocking out the outside world, your window blinds can provide that for you.

There are various designs for blinds out there. You can check out Mountain Home Decor to find the one that suits your needs and preferences. Choose window blinds with the right materials that are easy to maintain and can last for a long time.

You can also decide if you should go the vertical or horizontal route. Vertical blinds are not as common as horizontal ones but they can make a statement in modern style homes.

  1. Use double-layered curtains

If you prefer the soft look of curtains, you can opt for the double-layered ones instead. You can put a sheer curtain as the base layer and your preferred curtain on top of it. If you want to have privacy without blocking the light, you can just close the base layer and leave the top drawn out. It will be hard for peeping Toms to see through those curtains.

  1. Use plants to your advantage

You can use tall plants to hide the windows of your home. They can be placed near the windows. That will also give you a nice view. You can also put potted plants inside your home and position them near the windows.

  1. Use tinted windows

Tinted windows are popular in modern style homes. They still provide a semblance of privacy but without completely blocking your view. They are like a one-way mirror. The problem is that tinted mirrors can look unsightly from the outside. It might not match the style of traditional homes.

Privacy isn’t something you should compromise on. If you are not comfortable with having neighbors that are too close to your house, you can try the above-mentioned tips to increase your privacy.
