Are you going backpacking soon? Are you having trouble deciding what to take with you? Do you need help making a list of things to pack?

A lot of people love to travel and go on adventures. They find going to unknown places, interacting with new people, and experiencing new things fun and enjoyable. However, there are certain things about traveling and backpacking that some people find challenging. One of these is packing.

If you need help choosing which things to take on your trip, check out the list below. Of course, what you need to pack depends on a variety of factors, such as where you are going, how long your trip will be, and what the weather will be like, but this list includes some common things that will be very useful no matter your plans.

1. Travel documents

If you are going to a different country, you will need your passport and maybe a tourist visa. Several months before your trip, you should check with your embassy to be sure. Getting a passport or visa can take months, so be sure to take care of that as early as possible. On the other hand, if you are traveling locally, you might only need a valid ID, such as your driver’s license. Make sure to keep all of these safe and secure throughout your trip in case of emergencies. It’s also recommended to make a few photocopies of your documents, just in case.

2. Money

Find out what payment methods are accepted at your destination. In some countries, cards might not be as commonly used as in your home country, so make sure to exchange some local currency. If you are planning on using your cards, whether out of country or out of state, it’s a good idea to contact your bank so there are no delays due to fraud alerts.

3. Gadgets

Your phone is a lifesaver in case you get lost walking to your hotel or need GPS when driving. Don’t forget to also pack your phone charger, extra batteries, and a power bank. If you like to take a lot of photos, you might want to add a camera to your list, as well as some memory cards. If you are going to another country, bring a power adaptor so you can charge your devices when you arrive.

4. Clothes

The kind of clothes that you will need to pack depends on what the weather will be like at your destination. No matter the temperate, neutral layers are perfect for providing variety and protection from extreme cold or harsh sun. Make sure to wear strong and sturdy footwear, too.

5. Miscellaneous

If you will be hiking or spending a lot of time outdoors at night, a backpack light or keychain flashlight will be invaluable. A quality backpack light or keychain flashlight provides a reliable light source that is portable, and easy to carry. Medicines, water bottles, sunscreen and bug spray are other things that might come in handy depending on your plans.
