Staying Connected Following Weight Loss Surgery

Weight loss surgery is something that people go into with much hope and certainly trepidation. It is a big deal. No matter what procedure you choose, you are still charged with learning the specifics regarding the surgery itself as well as what you can expect before, during, and after the surgery. There is a lot of buildup to the day itself as we prepare ourselves, as well as our family and friends who make up our support team, for what is to come. And then the day is upon us and we go through the procedure and enter in to a time of recovery supported by our medical team and our loved ones.

But, ultimately, it becomes more important than ever to stay connected in order to set up a life for longterm success. So how do you stay connected?


      Schedule ongoing visits with your weight loss surgeon. Follow-ups are important even many months and even years down the road following surgery. Stay connected with your medical team to help you monitor your weight, provide you with nutritional support, and potentially head off any issues before they become problems.


      Stay connected with your peers. Keeping in touch with those who have similar experiences as you have will help you to keep your goals front of mind. Plus, there will always be things that come up for you and having someone to turn to who completely understands is priceless.


Help others. Part of helping yourself is sometimes helping others who are going through similar experiences. Reach out to someone who is considering weight loss surgery or has just undergone surgery and offer your perspective and guidance in their time of need. In helping others, you can help yourself stay connected to the world of longterm health.
