7 Tips to Make Your Website Compatible to All Browsers

Building a web page is simple, at least theoretically. If you know how to throw together a bunch of HTML codes and test it in your browser, you are pretty much set and ready to upload. CSS and HTML are standards, which should mean that the page you tested in one browser would look the same in all other platforms. However, things aren't as simple as theory suggests. Different browsers and platforms may display CSS and HTML in slightly different ways and some browsers do veer far from the standards. Nevertheless, it is important that you build web pages in a way that looks consistent across different browsers. Multi-browser or cross-browser coding is a must if you want to make your website appear good on all browsers and here are some tips to do so effectively:

• Keep things simple. The more complex your CSS and markup are, the more something will go wrong. Keeping your layout simple right at the design stage will help you address this problem. • Validate codes. Before uploading your website, run your CSS and HTML codes through validators to avoid invalid codes that often produce unpredictable and often hard to debug problems.

• Use CSS resets. Browser engines have subtly different default values for many things, including padding around elements and line height. These kinds of defaults can affect CSS rules and can be a real pain when you have to adjust everything. To avoid the hassle, use CSS reset rules so you can work from the same starting point across browsers.
• Code manually. While many will argue that automatic coding programs make life a lot easier—and they do (especially if you don't know HTML), there is an art to manually designing and creating an elegant, flexible, cross-browser website that page editors cannot replicate.
