Beginner’s Guide to Working Out at Home

Posted by Alex on February 13th, 2021

Since Covid-19 exploded across the globe in early 2020, life has changed on a lot of fronts. When it comes to physical health, the way that athletes and gymgoers have exercised and trained has pivoted because of gym and athletic training facility closures.

While some gyms have begun to reopen, many remain shuttered with a significant number of them unlikely to reopen ever again.

For lots of us, going to the gym was something that we never thought we would take for granted. But like a lot of things in 2020, change is happening, and we have had to adjust.

One of the big shifts in physical health is people workout out at home.

Here are some quick tips to make the most of this new reality so that you can continue to chase your fitness goals even though classes and gyms are suspended or closed.

Keep a schedule. One of the hardest parts of working out isn’t necessarily the workout itself—it’s building the routine and habits. One of the key ways to remove some of the natural resistance to physical exercise is setting a schedule for your workouts. It can be strictly time-based—“I am going to train at 8:30a.m. every day” or it can be piggy-backed on something you already do every single day—“After breakfast, I am going to put my running shoes on and go for a jog.”

Pick the right gear. With the incredible increase in training from home has brought a rush to stock up on the necessary equipment. Things like spin bikes, power racks, squat racks, dumbbells, weighted exercise vests, battling ropes, barbells, and ab roller wheels have all been purchased at an insane level. Pick a couple of pieces of workout gear specific to your goals and routines.

Have fun with it. Training at home can feel odd for the person that is used to going to their local neighborhood gym every day. This is why you should try and choose forms of physical exercise that are enjoyable. Not only will this make your workouts a little more fun, but it will also make your new training habits more sustainable.
