Importance of Sunscreen - Even Through the winter

The sun can do irreparable damage to our skin. The ultra violet rays emitted by the sun can cause painful burns, increase our risk of contracting skin cancers, and make us look old before our time. The best thing that we can do is avoid being in the direct light of the sun, but that is almost impossible to do all of the time.

Sunscreen was invented to help us protect our skin from the damaging rays. Wide brimmed hats, and long sleeved shirts are great protectors, but sunscreen allows all of our exposed skin to be covered without us having to wear uncomfortable clothes when the temperatures are high.

Many people seek the golden brown skin that comes when a person has had a large amount of sun exposure. They believe that this coloration makes them look healthier and more attractive. What these individuals do not realize is that in the future they will have skin complications because of the exposure to the sun that they are getting now.

Skin Cancer

Wearing sunscreen can help you to prevent skin cancers. Some skin cancers create a minor nuisance for the people that have them and some skin cancers cause the person that has them to die prematurely. Each time that the sun burns your skin you increase the odds that you will have skin cancer in the future. Sunscreen should be worn on all exposed skin whenever you are going outside. Do not forget that in the winter the temperatures are cooler, but the sun's rays are still doing damage to your skin. Make it a habit to put on sunscreen each day before you start your daily routine.

Premature Aging of the Skin

Have you ever seen a person in their 60s that does not appear to be that old? Those individuals are the ones that took great care of their skin when they were younger. They wore hat, long sleeves, and sunscreen. They sat in the shade when they could, and they tried not to be outside during the mid-portion of the day. If you want to look great in the future you must start to prepare your body now. Wearing sunscreen will allow you to have beautiful skin, fewer wrinkles, and less noticeable cellulite.

Your hair can also be damaged by the effects of the sun. The sun dries the moisture from your hair and leaves it brittle and damaged looking. Use hair protectant with sunscreen if you want to keep having soft, supple hair.
