Wild teas are from the same tea plants called camellia Sinensis. It’s not a different species or variants. The only difference is that they are not commercially cultivated in conventional tea gardens on estate, rather they grow naturally wild in the forest, nurtured just by nature in the wilderness. Unlike in the commercial tea estate, where tea bushes are cultivated and cultured, wild teas are ungroomed and unfurnished. They grow way bigger and taller, some of the mcan grow way over 20 feet and the size of the tea trunk can grow bigger than a grown elephant’s trunk and hence the tea picking is much more difficult because of the terrain & tree size.

The plants are mostly not owned or managed by any commercial entity.

There are two possibilities of how wild tea come into existence. It can be the native of the particular forest and hence it grows naturally or it can be an abandon cultivation or garden. Irrespective of the types, wild teas are perhaps the most natural and pure form of tea cultivation or plantation that’s available.

Wild teas have many advantages over commercialized tea both for health reasons and also from the forest ECO – SYSTEM.

Superior Health Benefits - These are the most natural form of teas as they don’t have any chemical inputs whatsoever. In fact, they are also not exposed to man-made pollutions and hence they are beyond organic. Secondly, because they are mostly older trees and unpruned, they have deeper root system which absorbs more nutrients and minerals from the earth. Also, because the forest soil is healthier, that makes the case even stronger.

More COMPLEX in terms of aroma - Unlike tea estate, wild tea grows in a heterogeneous forest ecosystem among various species of wild flowers, herbs and trees. Because of which it mixes and infuses with the various species trees, flowers, shrubs which gives more complexity in aroma and taste.

They are Pro Environment - Wild Teas make the earth greener because they grow much bigger than the commercialized tea bushes. They give shelter for many fauna & floras in the forest, they also take active participation in the bio-diversity process of the forest.

Wild tea plantations are far and few today in the world. You may come across few clusters in China, Vietnam, Laos and India. Despite being one of the origin countries of Tea along with China, India today has very limited wild tea plantation. Wild Tea in India is found mainly in Southern Manipur in the district of Churachandpur and Pherzor districts. There are also few clusters of Wild Tea plantation in Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram.
