Pregnancy Care with Ayurveda: Medicines, Diet & TherapiesPosted by Pure Herbal Ayurved Clinic on January 22nd, 2015 A 'Prasoothi' (expectant woman) should be careful with what she eats, but beyond that, she should be careful with her activities and experiences. Her mind, body, soul, exercises, and habits must be suitable for her pregnancy. In Ayurvedic medicine, pregnancy is considered as one of the greatest gifts from nature. Prasoothi tantra refers to treatments, diseases, health conditions, lifestyle modifications, and special food that can contribute to the birth of a healthy baby. Both men and women would take responsibility for the healthy birth of a child. Ayurveda is life's ancient science. The dietary regimen of a pregnant woman is one of the lessons that we can learn from it. Ayurveda also recommends exercises and the type of psychological counselling that she should go through during pregnancy. It suggests activities that she should do or not do while pregnant. Pregnancy care with Ayurveda starts with Garbhini Parichaya—the ante-natal phase—and it pertains to the diagnosis of the pregnancy and care for the pregnant woman (garbhini). Garbhini Paricharya has three objectives:
To achieve those objectives, Ayurveda has guidelines that a pregnant woman should follow. It would be great if her loved ones could help her follow these guidelines, too:
It is important to consider the quality of a pregnant woman's lifestyle to make sure that her physiology is balanced and that the baby is completely healthy. To achieve those goals, Ayurveda recommends that the pregnant woman should stay calm, happy, and try to bear with her mood swings. She must emphasise a fragrant and clean environment, indulge in auspicious tasks to generate positive energy, and she should sleep and sit with cushioning in correct positions. Ayurvedic medicines are provided for pregnancy care in the form of herbs like Sootashekhar, Laja Manda, Tapyadi Loha, Adraka, Garbhapala Rasa, and Triphala. Some of those herbs are great sources of calcium, iron, and other essential minerals, and some may even prevent excessive bleeding at childbirth. Conditions like anaemia, gravidarum, oedema, and hyperemesis can be relieved with certain herbal preparations. About the Author: Like it? Share it!More by this author |
