Supported Independent Living (SIL) is the opportunity for people with disability to live independently and make decisions about their day-to-day activities.

Supported Independent Living service providers provide support tailored to your needs, to develop independence so you can lead a full and enjoyable life. SIL is designed to give people with a disability a place they can call home while getting the supports they need to live a full life.

SIL is a package of NDIS supports designed to help a person with a disability live as independently as possible in a shared living arrangement. The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is designed to allow more choice and control in the lives of people living with a permanent and significant disability.

SIL can include all the supports you need to be independent in a home environment such as personal care, assistance with daily tasks or help to get around.One of the benefits of moving is the opportunity to expand your social circle. Supported Independent Living service providers understand that living with other people is a great way to make new friends, therefore they strive to match you to other house members who are a similar age and have shared interests.

Shared homes often contain communal facilities like the kitchen, living room, laundry and outdoor entertaining area. Sharing communal areas with other house members means that you will have lots of opportunities to be social in your everyday life. A move of home means choice and new opportunities. Balancing safety and freedom is important to everyone. While you will share the communal areas with the other house members, your new room is your own space. You will have the freedom to arrange and decorate it in a way that you like.At least one support service provider is on-site 24 hours a day to provide support for the house members.
