To become an Australian permanent resident, a foreign skilled worker would typically opt for one of the three most popular General Skilled Migration visas – all of which are points-tested. Once points are allocated, the highest-scoring candidates receive invitations to apply for the visa from the Department of Home Affairs.

The point allocation criteria for all three visas is fairly similar, with small differences for certain parameters. The Skilled Nominated Visa is one of the most accessible immigration pathways.
