Association Football - An Overview

Association football, also called football or soccer, is organized team sports played between two contrasting teams of eleven players each. It is played professionally by more than 250 million people in more than 200 different countries and dependencies. The game is played mostly in tropical countries but has been popular in all parts of the world. The object of the game is for the team to score more points than the other team and win the match.

The origin of Association football can be traced back in 1875 when English coach Bob Poole moved to South Africa where he made contact with the indigenous South African rugby team. He introduced the sport with the use of a rugby ball, which was a hard white ball that had been modified to prevent slipping during a tackle. As a result, 24sbo the game had its start as a way to play tackle football. It became popular as a sport in South Africa and its coach George Molehoe became the first foreign coach to take charge of a South African soccer team.

After this early start in Association football, it was changed in the shape of tournaments which began to be played internationally. The matches would usually be played on a round-robin basis, with the finals being played in consecutive years. The tournaments that were played were mostly played with teams from Europe and some of the African nations such as Morocco, Egypt and Tunisia. With the popularity of these tournaments and the growth in the number of teams competing, major international tournaments were introduced, which were played in different countries in order to increase the level of competition.

The evolution of football codes has continued with the use of modern technology. Video analysis and computer software programs have allowed football associations to create a unique quality in their game. For example, in England, all three main football codes have been able to create unique video presentations using high-definition cameras which give a true image of how the pitch is paned-out. This is especially important because of the rough conditions experienced by football on the pitches of certain parts of England during the summertime.

International football is played between member countries of the FIFA (Federation of International Football Associations) and its many member teams. The most common type of football that is regularly played is known as football but there are other types of sport that are played. Rugby is played between the members of the British Isles and is considered as the oldest form of sports. The sport can be divided into two sections, the English and the Scottish representative teams. The international tournament is held every four years and is also accompanied with the Rugby Test Match.
