Safety comes first at constructional sites

Construction business is reaching new heights every week. In this blend of building high rise building blocks, establishing new shopping malls, schools, colleges, markets, commercial complexes, theatres, community halls, etc. All are higher level, long lasting projects. The time period of completion of the project varies from say 6 months to several years. It depends upon the design, area, and complexity, super built up, carpet area etc.

There is a fashion of developing the architectural skills in designing beautiful elevations for the buildings. Initially, back in 1990’s elevation designs were limited to basic mathematical surfaces. They used to give round shaped balconies, hexagonal rooms, triangular gates and that’s all. But nowadays, buildings with outlook of French fries are even possible. Complexity of every level is catered in designing a project.

To build all sorts of attractive uneven elevations, scaffolding is required. It means building stages per level of the structure. It is a temporary support structure around the area of actual design. It is built by using prefabricated metal pipes, a modular system of metal tubes, bamboos, wooden logs along the structure. It is an accustomed method in constructing buildings since the ancient times.

To form a dwelling within the allocated place, scaffolding is drafted along, for the workers to climb upon and arrange bricks, apply cement, concrete, watering the walls, painting the outer elevation, piping window and doors from outside, etc. The sole purpose of providing this service is to create a safe workplace and accessible heights, not at the stake of workers’ life.

It provides a frame structure with:

  1. Frames that are fabricated.
  2. Modular systems.
  3. Tubes and couplers for joints.
  4. Protection along the sidewalk path.
  5. Steel forgings and construction hardware.

While constructing, there is a possibility of collapsing of the ceilings, walls, higher floors, repairing the alterations etc. There is a need of vertical, angled, or horizontal wooden or metal rods for support. These kind of supporting units are called shores.

Shoring involves different types of techniques:

  1. Raking shores: a module of more than one wooden rod in angular manner between lateral face of the structure and the ground.
  2. Foundations: while providing foundations for a new construction, piles, laggings, concrete etc. Are loaded below the ground levels.
  3. Trenches: when excavation missions are provided to the excavators, these trenches provide them safe and fast excavation projects. It is designed to prevent collapses in the remote areas.
  4. Hydraulic shoring: it uses hydraulic pistons to pump out extra water during construction.
  5. Beam and plate: these are driven into the ground for providing a support system and a proper base.

Both the above topics provide safety to the workers involved in constructing structures. The promising safety programs covered are:

  1. Safety director.
  2. Full time safety managers.
  3. Weekly inspections.
  4. Site survey.
  5. Fall protection and collapse controls.
  6. Monetary surveillance.
