How To Keep Your Wool Throws Looking As Good As New

So, you just bought a gorgeous Pendleton throw for sale and it is so cozy that you wrap up in it whenever it is cold. And when it is not wrapped around you, your throw is draped over the sofa. It looks soft that everyone who sits on the sofa strokes it. Then you begin to notice fluff on the surface of your throw and then the fluff on the throw turns to fuzz. It then turns to little balls and within a very short time, your throw looks shabby and you don’t even feel comfortable wrapping it around your body anymore.

Do not despair because you can get your throw looking good and attractive again. The little balls on your throw are known as spills and they happen to different natural fibers. However, they are common in cashmere and wool. They are typically caused when loose fibers within the weave of your throw make their way up to the fabric’s surface. Once they reach the surface of the fabric, they cling onto each other resulting in little balls. This should not worry you so much because there are ways you can fix it.

Stay on top of your general upkeep

When you beat or shake your throw regularly, you dislodge all those loose fibers. Therefore, they do not hang around on the surface of your throw ready to be matted up every minute you make contact with your throw. It is recommended to give your Pendleton wool throwsa good shake weekly. Every so often, you should hang your throw on a line and whack it up using a tennis racket or something similar. As well as removing the loose fibers, this will keep your throw smelling fresh. It also gets rid of dust and makes your throw feel plumper.

Steam and iron your throw

Wool can suck in up to 30% of its weight in water. This means that when you set your iron to wool settings and pump steam into your throw, you will give your throw extra volume. The key to doing this is to shake, iron, steam and hang over a bannister. The heat of the steam will kill off mites and bacteria in your throw so it is a little bit cleaner when you are through.

De-fuzz

In case you notice the pilling has reached a stage where you have little balls on the surface of the wool throw, you can remove the balls using a de-fuzzing machine or a comb. Wool combs can be bought cheaply and they are very effective when it comes to removing balls from your throw.

Shave

If you bought a Pendleton throw for sale some years back and you feel like the balls and the ruggedness are not getting off, you can shave your throw to get it back to its new condition. This functions in the same way as using the de-fuzzier. You need to ensure that the blade is new and do it gently to avoid cutting sections you want to retain.
