ARTHRITIS Arthritis is the worst enemy of the mankind. Arthritis is a condition of the damages of the joints in our body. So far more than 100 types of arthritis have been identified. Most common forms of arthritis are rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and septic arthritis. Osteoarthritis can be caused by joint injuries. Metabolic abnormalities can lead to gout type of arthritis. Symptoms Characteristics of arthritis include pain and limited functionality of joints. It causes swelling, redness, stiffness of the joints. The main complaint by arthritis patients is pain, sometimes continuous pain. Sometimes it can be limited to only neck, hip, knee, or back. The pain occurs because of various reasons, like inflammation around the joint, damage of the joint, strains to the muscles caused by forceful body movements. Rheumatoid Arthritis In the Rheumatoid arthritis, our immune system attacks our body tissues, and the attack is not only directed to joints but to other parts of body also. Damage occurs to the joint lining and the cartilage. It affects joint in the knees, wrists, fingers and elbows. If not treated in time, it is capable of causing serious deformity in a very short time. Rheumatoid arthritis normally occurs to the individuals of the age 20 or older than that. Reasons for rheumatoid arthritis are not known so far. Treatment of rheumatoid arthritis is aimed at easing symptoms of it. If it is diagnosed in early phase and proper treatment is given, patient can be able to live decent life. Osteoarthritis Osteoarthritis can affect smaller and larger joints of the body, including the feet, back, hands, knee or hip. This disease begins in the cartilage and causes two opposing bones erode into each other. Initially it causes minor pain when you walk, but soon it becomes continuous. The pain prevents, one doing any type of physical activity. Weight bearing joints, like back, spine and pelvis are more likely to get affected in osteoarthritis. Generally it occurs to the people of old age. There is no medicine available for osteoarthritis. Weight loss is can be useful to ease symptoms. Physical therapy to make muscles stronger is also helpful. In the advance stage of osteoarthritis, joint replacement surgery is useful. Lupus Sometimes this disorder is found with severe arthritis, other characteristics of the lupus are skin rash, hair loss, extreme photosensitivity, kidney problems, and continuous pain in joints. Gout This is caused by uric acid crystals deposits in the joint, leading to inflammation. Unusual type of gout can occur by rhomboid crystals formation of calcium pyrophosphate, it is known as pseudo gout. Initially it affects one joint, but gradually it affects many other joints. Sometimes joints become lose function and swollen. Others Infectious arthritis is another form of arthritis, It occurs by bacteria in the body. Immediately, it must be diagnosed and treated. If not treated in time, it can cause permanent damage to the joint. Symptoms include fever and joint pain. Diagnosis Doctor will check the history of the patient, examine joints and deformity, and check whether any other parts of body showing the same symptoms. Then certain blood, joint fluid, urine, and x-ray test are carried out. After checking all these reports doctor can be sure of arthritis. Treatment Treatment of the arthritis depends upon the type of arthritis. An accurate diagnosis plays a big role for the success of the treatment. Main treatment for the arthritis includes physical therapy, cold-pack application, splinting, paraffin wax dips, immune-altering medications, anti-inflammatory medications, and surgery.
