Today, there are other treatments available for treating cancer, depending on the type and stage of the cancer itself. But chemotherapy continues to be widely used and very effective in targeting cancer cells throughout the body. Modern chemotherapy treatment includes over 100 different types of drugs that are used at an oncologist’s discretion – based on the type of cancer that the patient has and how far it may have spread. The goal of chemotherapy is to flood the body with the drug of choice so that cancer cells will be inhibited from growing and the spread of the disease will be stopped.
