Importance & Purpose of Land Surveying

The science of land surveying is a combination of mathematics, physics and geography. The practise of surveying of lands to mark boundaries, and, to,therefore, drawing maps for that area has been here with us for centuries. Today, with every bit of land being grabbed up to mark as their own, people prefer to have some form of documentation to get their boundaries fixed. Hence, land mapping and surveying, has become very much essential to fence it up and live life comfortably.

Any construction project cannot be completed without the work of a land surveyor. Unless boundaries are marked up in every direction possible, and necessary calculations done, the project cannot take off, as planned. Before even construction any building, or especially larger structures such as bridges, railroads or other such vital structures, having a land survey done, helps them in making up a fool proof construction plan.

Hence, a land mapping and surveying are the essential elements to an architect before they can even visualise or conceptualise a construction plan.

Land surveying today, has gone up beyond just marking up boundaries. When you build an industry or any such commercial facility, it is essential to note the nearby areas of importance, such as a forest land or agricultural patch. A land survey, apart from marking up your boundaries, can also give a fair idea of what is nearby. This way, you can decide on the next course of action and proceed with the authorities’ approval.

Many states have very stringent norms about getting permission from the authorities before even starting up a building, commercial or otherwise. With the environmental concerns increasing day by day and step towards saving Mother Nature increasing the norms are becoming further rigid. Thus, land surveying has become indispensable in almost all sectors of development and architecture.

So, from splitting land equally among the owners to making an enormous impact on theenvironment by mapping out the river bodies or forest land, land surveying plays a vital role in our lives today. With every parcel of land being purchased and sold to different people for various purposes, land surveying is the only way through which we can divide it among them equally and logistically.

Land surveying, thus, has become an all-important entity for purchasing a land, selling it or starting up a construction. With the authorities putting up highly stringent conditions for building anything within state or city boundaries, the land surveying is the only art through which people can withhold to what is theirs, legally.
