Enhance Your Personality with Traditional Indian Dresses

The words 'stylish' and 'fashionable' do not exactly come to everyone's minds when traditional clothing is concerned. Traditional clothing is often associated with ethnicity, culture, and the tradition of the people or nation where it comes from. But in today's modern world, even the most traditional dresses can be stylish and fashionable to wear on a normal or daily basis. They are not just worn during special occasions any more.

There is a variety of women's clothing in India and a majority of them are designed based on factors like climate, religion, and local culture. Sarees and ghargra cholis are traditionally worn by Indian women in the east and north, while women from the south typically wear traditional sarees.  Sarees are made of a long strip of fabric that is typically around five to eight meters long and two to four feet in breadth. A saree is wrapped around the body and draped over the left shoulder. A blouse or a petticoat is worn underneath.

Silk sarees are the most elegant, and you can wear them to look and feel sophisticated. Cotton sarees are suitable for less formal occasions or if you prefer to wear sarees on a daily basis. Embroidered brocade fabric, chiffon, and georgette are fabrics that are also used. Embroidered fabric is typically heavier, so it is best worn in the evening. Elaborate designs are common with bridal sarees.

For a bit of a modern flair, the traditional Indian dress Salwar Kameez is a good choice.  There are contemporary versions of the Salwar Kameez and they are also known as the tunic or kurti. Kurti and tunics can be worn on all occasions and they go well with churidar or a pair of jeans. They are available in different lengths and cuts, too.

Salwar kameez is traditionally worn by women in Himachal Pardesh, Haryana, and Punjab, and it is a popular option for ladies. Women may wear an odani (veil) or dupatta (scarf) with salwar kameez to conceal their shoulders and head. A dupatta can be made of different fabrics depending on the fabric that is used for the tunic, but it is usually made of chiffon, silk, georgette, and cotton.

Stylish and elegant Bollywood actresses have made salwar kameez popular in western countries. Modern-day contemporary women can easily integrate salwar kameez into their wardrobes because the styles and cuts blend in well with modern casual wear.
