Lockdown In Maharashtra Districts: Stricter Covid Curbs InitiatedPosted by Latest News on February 19th, 2021 Following the 5,400 newly registered Covid-19 cases, Maharashtra administration has announced a 10-day lockdown in Yavatmal district. A weekend lockdown is announced in the neighbouring Amravati district. Maharashtra reported more than 5,427 new Covid cases after a gap of 75 days and it is the highest one-day count this year. According to reports, most of the cases are coming from Akola and Nagpur divisions. 38 fatalities have also been reported in the last 24 hours. READ MORE: TOP HEADLINES OF TODAY After the gradual drop in cases after December, the Maharashtra government had relaxed restrictions on movements and gatherings including travel by local trains in Mumbai. However, since the last week, a spike in COVID-19 cases has been seen. The Yavatmal district administration has ordered a ten-day lockdown from Thursday night. It includes curbs on gatherings and closure of schools. Meanwhile, Amravati district has announced weekend lockdown from 8 pm on Saturday to 7 am on Monday. Markets and other establishments are advised to remain closed. However, emergency and essential services will remain unaffected.
Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had previously warned the citizens of Maharashtra if COVID-19 normas are not followed, people should be prepared for a fresh round of strict lockdown. Union Health Ministry has reported 1,09,50,201 total covid-19 cases in India as of Thursday with 12,881 new cases registered in the previous 24 hours.
