In other words, a truly balanced diet would be one in which all the major food groups (i.e., carbohydrates, protein, fat, fiber) are consumed in their appropriate portions. This kind of diet would probably be called a macrobiotic diet since the word contains the prefix biotic which means 'of living things'.

The second definition of diet in the context of the Atkins Diet is one in which you are allowed to eat fats and oils but you are discouraged from consuming any protein, minerals, or fiber. The idea is that a diet that restricts these kinds of foods is better for long term weight control than one in which you allow them to freely multiply in your body. In this sense, this diet is similar to the way in which dairy products should not be consumed with soy milk. In essence, this type of diet is vegetarian or vegan.
