Breast Implants: Silicone vs. Saline

Posted by adortalukdar on February 14th, 2015

Breast implants are of two types; they can either be made of silicone or saline. Saline stands for salt water; that is, water mixed with salt and the salt water is poured into silicone shell. The water used is however sterile water without any germ whatsoever. On the other hand, plastic gel is poured into silicone shell to form what is called silicone implant.  According to many women using implant, silicone implant feels like real breast unlike saline implant.  However, the woman using silicone implant faces more health risks, especially if the plastic gel in the silicone shell ever leaks into the surrounding breast tissue.

Because of the safety concerned mentioned earlier, the FDA had to stop the sales of silicone implant in 1992. The FDA softens up a little about the silicone implant rule in 2006 after they reviewed a number of research results. Not all silicone implants were allowed anyway.

What is the cost?

The type of implant, among other issues is responsible for the cost of the breast implant. The other determining factors are the doctor you are dealing with as well as the doctor's location.  The patient may have to part with as much as $10,000 depending on the factors mentioned earlier. There is no health insurance on breast implant and the patients will have to deal with the cost alone.

Which is better?

If the truth must be told, most women will prefer silicone implant to saline implant. Also, silicone implant makes up 80% of the total number of implants being made out there today.  Silicone implants have also been discovered to last far longer than saline implant.  They are also lighter and much softer. The possibility of ripping is also reduced in silicone implant and it is not normal for a normal breast to ripple.  A number of women interviewed insist that there is more natural look and feel to silicone implant than saline implant. There is this characteristic round appearance to saline implants.

The slope gotten with silicone implant is also more natural. The FDA has decided the any woman less than 18 should not ever go for breast implant. This is because the breast is still growing till late teen age and even to the early twenties. A number of women equally claim that saline breast implant gives uniform kind of shape and reliable firmness to the breast more than what is obtainable with silicone implant.

There are lots of outlets to get your breast implant or any other kind of plastic surgery done and Buchele Plastic Surgery stands out among the others. They have the expertise to get the job done to suit your desire.
