Liz Wallace: Jeweler Extraordinaire

Liz Wallace is one of the most notable Native American silversmiths and jewelry makers in the US. Her work experience with silver began in 1996, but her artistic talent was already evident at age three. Her diverse background and knowledge in historical jewelry from around the world, advanced stone setting techniques, blacksmithing, and enameling contribute to the richness of her work. To date, she has made some of the most exquisite pieces of Native American turquoise jewelry.

Her vision is to make interesting and high-quality heirloom pieces that can be a good investment and can stand the test of time. Liz uses traditional Dineh theme, which is influenced by her penchant for art deco and art nouveau. In 2009, she was chosen for a fellowship in the Southwest Association on Indian Art. Insect forms like dragonflies and butterflies are featured in her best natural high grade turquoise jewelry. Nowadays, she is known for her extravagant pieces with a focus on multiple materials.

Some of her jewelry can be considered versatile. The rare gem grade Turquoise Mountain spiderweb tufa cast butterfly design pin-pendant is one of them. You can wear it as a lovely brooch to make your outfit more interesting, or attach a chain to it if you prefer to wear it as a statement necklace. The piece is truly attractive with its Turquoise Mountain stones from Arizona, with 86 carets of fine old spiderweb. The gems are naturally gorgeous with their teal hue and reddish golden brown webbing. The turquoise gems that were used in this pin-pendant were mined in the 1970s and they are among the highest grade from the mine. The stones are complimented by a combination of intricate silverwork and a layer of beads.

Liz is known for her butterfly design jewelry. The rare gem grade Montezuma spiderweb turquoise tufa cast butterfly pin-pendant is another of her masterpieces. The piece features the combination of seven rare gem-grade Montezuma spiderweb turquoise cabochons from Nevada, and they were used to form an elegant butterfly shape. The sky blue hue is accented with wispy chocolate brown webbing. Liz personally called the piece, 'butterfly with eyelashes' due to the additional silverwork on the topmost part of the butterfly's head.
