Natural Hair Care: Some Homemade Dyes

Posted by AldoMoore on February 23rd, 2015

Traditional hair dyes do a great job; they allow you to give it the color you want. But, studies show that they damage both your hair and your health in the long run. The best way is to go green. Organic dyes are easy to prepare. Besides, they help not only your hair, but also your entire body.  Here are some options you can try in this regard.

Homemade dyes for natural hair care

Homemade dyes are the best, there is no doubt about it. But, if you want to enjoy the benefits, you should go for time-tested recipes. The following are a few for your consideration.

  1. 1.       For blond hair

Take ½ cup of chamomile flowers and calendula. Boil some water in the stove. Add the herbs and throw away the water. Keep the liquid for half an hour. Filter the liquid. Wash your hair and spray the solution onto your head. Leave your hair like this for thirty minutes and rinse it clean. You can skip this step if you want.

  1. 2.       For black hair

All you need to darken your black or brown hair are just three ingredients; nettle, sage and rosemary leaves. Fill a cup with the three herbs in equal quantity; ¼ for each of them. Simmer the herbs in water until it becomes dark. Leave it to cool for some time. Afterwards, filter the liquid. Take care to remove even the small pieces. Spray the solution onto your head one hour before shampooing. You can also leave it on your hair for the day.

Know that it is a cumulative type of dye. You would have to wait at least for three days before the hair acquires the color you desire.

  1. 3.       To make your hair red

Tomato is the best choice if you want your hair to turn red. Massage its juice on your scalp and to the ends of the hair. Keep your head covered for half an hour and rinse it out. The tea of hibiscus flowers and calendula are known to be effective. Adjust the amount of the ingredients to get the desired color.

Some additional tips

It is not a must that you dye your hair to get rid of the strands of gray which may have begun to appear on your head. Try the tips given below.

  1. 1.       Get a henna and amla pack

Henna is the most effective natural remedy you can get to cover up gray hair. Prepare a paste using henna, amla powder and a bit of coffee. Mix it well. Apply it on your scalp and hair; let it dry on its own. Wash it using an organic shampoo.

  1. 2.       Coconut and lemon

The treatment is ideal for those who want black hair. Take coconut oil based on the length of your hair. Add three teaspoons of lemon into it. Apply the mixture on your head; keep it for one hour before washing it clean.

Invest a bit of time for natural hair care; your friends will appreciate the efforts.
