When talking about gaming companies that started from the top, went to the bottom, and is now at the top again, there is no doubt that Zynga is the first that is thought of. Before 2011, Zynga was really one of the biggest names in the gaming industry. When 2013 came, though, a short while after Zynga went public, Zynga then began losing.
Thankfully, because of some recent ventures and collaborations, the mobile gaming giant was able to bounce back. Right now, Zynga is once again taking the world by storm through their latest release. Zynga’s latest game, High Heels, is so successful right now that it breezed through major applications like Youtube and Zoom.
High Heels became truly popular through the popular social media application Tiktok. The specific video that inadvertently promoted High Heels was a post from Tiktok user isaiahbaca with the caption “She popped off !! #fyp #VisionBoard #CleanTok #highheels”. The intro for the video has the same tone which sorts of emulate urging the positive culture of a “boss woman”, in this case, “a game for baddies”. As of this moment, the video has had over four million views, almost twenty five thousand comments, and almost 15 thousand shares.
The first time you will play High Heels, it will be painfully obvious why the game is so popular right now. Despite being super popular, High Heels is actually a pretty simple game. High Heels is a platform running game. Like any running platform game, High Heels has obstacles in each level and platform. In order to get through the obstacles, the character must have super high heels. Heels are necessary because obstacles will reduce your heels. Each level ends with stairs where there are multipliers written at the left side of the stairs. The higher your heels are by the end of a level, the higher you can walk up in the stairs and the more points you will have based on the multiplier. Apart from feeling like an absolute badass in heels, you will also be cheered on by a couple of your adoring fans at the end of each level.
So, why has this game which has used a really common game concept become the fastest growing application today? The answer is one word: memes. Objectively speaking, High Heels is not really that special of a game in terms of concept and graphics. High Heels acknowledges itself to have been made popular because of its effective use of social media and trendy memes. First,
High Heels PC uses a lot of trendy words that young people love to use like “Queen” and “Badass”, in the right context, of course. Not only is the actual gameplay and social media content hilarious, players also have the opportunity to change their characters in really funny ways by adding equally funny cosmetics. Whatever kind of player you are, you will certainly find this endlessly amusing.
High Heels was able to effectively outlets that are “in” right now like memes and social media. Even though the popularity might be short-lived, the experience was still fun nonetheless.
