New modeling opportunities with casting calls

Not everyone can get into a big modeling agency, but if we were to try, we would need to gain recognition first. While most people still wait out for one great opportunity when they will participate in something really interesting, like a movie, a fashion shoot, or a commercial, the fact is that these opportunities don’t come that easily, if at all. In order to gain recognition and make a name for ourselves we’ll need to start at the bottom of the ladder and work our way up through casting calls and beauty pageants.

                It’s easy to want everything and to want everything to happen in the present moment. However, this kind of thinking is counterproductive and can soon lead to disappointment and disbelief. Instead of waiting to be discovered we should always try to do our best with the opportunities we have at hand. We don’t have to worry about losing time with things that are of little importance, after all, any job we get as a model will only contribute to our portfolio and will expose us more to the rest of the world, including big time modeling agencies. Even if we don’t want to win or get the part, participating at casting calls can give us a good view over what people expect of us, as well as the trends that are important. Beauty pageants should be all about learning what not to do wrong and how to look good in any and all situations. Of course, this kind of activities will also increase our exposure to the public and, eventually, to the fashion media.

                The biggest problem that we might have would be with finding out what beauty pageants and casting calls are taking place, when, where and, of course, whether we can participate. While some pageants are held regularly, others are not, being organized for a special event. When it comes to casting calls things get even more unpredictable, as they depend on an actual need from a producer, director or entertainer.        The easiest way to find out about these things would be to have an agent, someone that is on the inside of the modeling business and that can help us by showing us the ropes. The bad part is that good agents are usually pretty much booked, and even if they weren’t, we couldn’t afford to pay their fees and hope to earn something at the same time.

                There is another option when it comes to keeping a close look on the industry and the job opportunities we have as a model. While we could search and browse the internet in search for such events every single day, it would actually be easier if we could become members of a modeling website and receive all the information regarding beauty pageants, modeling jobs and casting calls from there. As luck will have it, there are many such sites, albeit not all of them being easy to get into. However, since we have to start somewhere and given the fact that such websites are a great medium between us and potential clients as well as agents, it is the best shot we have and one that we should take.
