Light Therapy Effective Treatment for Some Common Skin Conditions

Posted by coherent market insights on February 23rd, 2021

Light therapy is used in order to treat skin conditions. The most common use today is in treating skin cancer. It is commonly used today to treat pre-cancerous or malignant skin cancerous growths as well as sun-damaged skin that has been sun burned. It can also be used to stop skin cancer from spreading and even remove existing cancerous skin lesion(s) and cancerous skin cancers that have already spread to other parts of the body (metastasized). It is also commonly used as a postoperative treatment to reduce pain associated with surgical excision of tumors.

There are two main types of light therapy. There is the shunt process where a molecule of vitamin A is combined with oxygen in a solution in order to make a molecule of hydrogen peroxide. This then reacts with free radicals in the skin cancerous areas to create a chemical reaction, which causes them to release or stop producing abnormal proteins. The other is photoepilation where a molecule of vitamin A is mixed with an enzyme in order to make a molecule of oxygen. The oxygen is then taken to the skin cancer areas to kill cancer cells and prevent their growth.

Both processes have some medical benefits. The type of light therapy that is used in treating skin cancer is known as chemical cellular radiation therapy. The procedure involves using high-energy blue light under medical supervision. Some patients may experience redness or warmth at the site of treatment. These side effects generally disappear within a few days or weeks.

Light therapy is also commonly called pulsed dye therapy, photofrin, photodynamic therapy, or photodynamic therapy. It is an effective treatment for some common skin conditions. Melanoma, acne, benign multicystic mesothelioma, pleural mesothelioma, and multiple myeloma are some of these conditions that can be treated with it. It has been successful in treating these conditions, even melanoma that has not responded to conventional treatment with radiation. The procedure has also been shown to be effective in treating conditions such as age spots, liver disease, macular degeneration, and other eye disorders.
