We often see houses with many windows. The idea to keep window in a house is to allow the outer air come inside the house and keep the inside temperature cool and calm, airy and fresh. But during summer time the hot sun ray also comes in and along with that harmful UV rays also come in. Windows are generally made of glasses and nowadays people prefer to install such glasses which can also block the sun rays and keep the home temperature cool and normal. Even in car we see people use sun ray blocking screen or film. That helps them to drive the car comfortably. The sun ray blocking films are widely available in the market.

However there are different types of films available which have completely different function and nature of use. One is called solar control film and other one is known as safety film. The main difference between these two films is thickness. Generally solar control films are made with 1.5 mil thickness and the other one is made with a 2mil thickness and up to 12 mil thickness. The main purpose of using solar film is to control the heat, reduce glare and block the harmful UV rays as well. However the role of a safety film is quite different. They are used to hold the glass shards together in case of breakage and act like a “safety Net “.As discussed before this safety net comes in different thickness and used as per situation. Like a ball hitting a glass or smash and robbery in such cases 2 mil, 4 mil and 7 mil safety films are being used.8 mil, 11 mil and 12 mil thickness are being used for severe impact loads like natural calamity, earthquake or hurricanes etc. Moreover these solar control films give dual benefit to the customer as glass protection and solar control preference. Thus it generates more revenue for the dealer as well since these films have great demand in the market.

Installation procedure of these two films is completing different and we need professional people in order to install these films in our houses. Installer must be aware that thicker films increase the application time and the installer needs to spend more time in order to squeezing out excess water from back of the film. For a fact it is much easier to install solar control film in car, offices or home windows. It gives comfort label to dealer as well since getting this type of job done is much easier compare to safety film installation. Manufacturer produce more of these type of films as these are more popular among the customer and comes in different thickness which allows a customer to choose from a wide range of variety.
