Well if you love poodles, this article is definitely for you. The poodle is a unique dog breed and many of you are just behind these breeds, here are a few things that you must know about them.

The history of Poodle

You might be aware of the classic European dog breed, which has its origin in the 15th-century hunting dog. This breed was the best for upland bird hunting or water bird retrieving. However, the exact start point of such a poodle mix is still up for debate as some are asserting their origin in France, and they are descended from a French water dog named Barbet. You would find others who would claim that poodles are originally from Germany, descended from another water dog. In Germany, Poodle means splashing water dogs.

The standard of Poodle breed

If you talk about the US, the poodle breeds are categorized into three sizes. The most standard one of them all is a classic and it is also a member of the sporting group in the American Kennel Club.

The other two sizes are miniature and toy poodles, which were bred down from the standard companion dogs. Both of these breeds are a member of companion and toy groups respectively.

The standard poodle is a splashing dog and it is a great swimmer. This poodle can be trained immensely and for people who are looking for a well-trained dog, this is the perfect match. This poodle has a high IQ and also a pleasant personality. If you have the habit of calling your guests often at home, your poodle is going to keep everyone happy.

The various sizes of the poodles

The standard poodle we talked about will weigh around 60-70 pounds where the females are a little smaller. The miniature poodle will weigh between 10-15 pounds. The life expectancy of both breeds will fall between 10-18 years. The toy poodles will usually weigh between 6-9 pounds and the life expectancy of the breed is 14-16 years.
